Another Wednesday means another episode of Better Lait Than Never is wrapped up, edited, and ready to get you through what&#8217;s left of the week. On today&#8217;s podcast, we&#8217;re discussing Ryan Nugent-Hopkins&#8217; heater, <a href="https://publish.oilersnation.com/2025/03/24/edmonton-oilers-connor-mcdavid-leon-draisaitl-miss-three-games-dallas-stars-seattle-kraken-calgary-flames/">McDavid and Draisaitl&#8217;s injury timelines</a>, the #NationVacation to Vegas, and more.
I kicked off this week&#8217;s podcast with a random collection of topics that have happened since last week, including some of the books I&#8217;m reading, trying to learn how to use a 3D printer, and how I&#8217;m going to be a fancy boy at the Oilers game tonight. As you&#8217;ll hear, your boy will be in a game-time situation that has only ever happened once before — or when I snuck in — and I couldn&#8217;t be more excited.
Turning the podcast to the Oilers, I had to start with <a href="https://publish.oilersnation.com/2025/03/24/oilers-3-stars-nugent-hopkins-steps-up/">the heater Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been</a> on over his last four games and how it&#8217;s so much fun to watch my guy crank it up when the team needs him most. While the start of RNH&#8217;s season wasn&#8217;t the most productive offensively, the guy has really turned it on down the stretch. Same goes for <a href="https://publish.oilersnation.com/2024/07/03/4-fun-facts-about-oilers-new-addition-jeff-skinner/">Jeff Skinner</a>, who, all of a sudden, has three goals in his last two games after getting bumped up the lineup with Connor and Leon out. Yet, based on the <a href="https://oilersnation.com/combinations">line combos</a> from practice yesterday, our man Skinner could be back to his usual spot on the 3rd line against Dallas.
The other story that popped around here this week was the quote from Stan Bowman on Hockey Night in Canada that expressed his confidence in the <a href="https://publish.oilersnation.com/2025/03/23/were-going-to-make-it-happen-oilers-gm-stan-bowman-confident-connor-mcdavid-will-sign-extension/">team&#8217;s ability to re-sign Connor McDavid to an extension</a>. While Bowman didn&#8217;t get into any details apart from saying he felt confident they would get it done, the GM&#8217;s words were music to the fanbase&#8217;s ears. Sticking with contracts, Jacob Chychrun signed a massive extension with Washington yesterday, which led to a discussion about how that deal will affect Evan Bouchard&#8217;s upcoming contract negotiations.
Finally, I wrapped up this week&#8217;s episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about my trip to WEM before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. While the voicemail was quieter this week, the messages that did get left were very funny and all over the map. As always, finishing up the show with your opinions is my favourite part of the whole thing and something I always look forward to.
