Connor McDavid broke a huge record during Saturday’s 8-1 Stanley Cup Final Game 4 win for the Edmonton Oilers: one that felt unbreakable. 

On a goal by Dylan Holloway in the second period, McDavid recorded his 32nd assist of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, <a href="https://oilersnation.com/2024/06/15/connor-mcdavid-sets-nhl-record-for-most-assists-in-a-single-playoffs-passing-wayne-gretzky/">breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record for the most in a single postseason (31). </a>

But that’s not the only impressive record he reached in the game. McDavid put his team on his back in Game 4 against the Florida Panthers with one goal and three assists. With his third assist, he tied Gretzky as the only other player in NHL history to record three or more assists in at least five playoff games during a single postseason.

Gretzky also did it in five games and accomplished the feat in 1985, when he led the Oilers with 47 points (17 goals, 30 assists) in 18 games on their way to winning the Stanley Cup. 
McDavid recorded at least three assists in Game 4 of the Final (one goal, three assists), Game 4 of the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars (three assists), Game 6 of the second round against the Vancouver Canucks (three assists), Game 2 against Vancouver (one goal, three assists) and Game 1 of the first-round series against the Los Angeles Kings (five assists). 
Another unbreakable record reached, and another instance of McDavid making his mark in the history books of the National Hockey League.

The Oilers’ captain leads the NHL with 38 points (six goals, 32 assists) in 22 playoff games. He has gone only five games without picking up a point in these playoffs.
