Ahead of Saturday&#8217;s game between the Chicago Blackhawks and his hometown St. Louis Blues, Pat Maroon announced that he plans to retire following the 2024-25 NHL season.

Maroon was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round of the 2007 draft after a championship season with the St. Louis Bandits of the NAHL. He played parts of three seasons with their American Hockey League affiliate before getting traded to the Anaheim Ducks in November of 2010.
After making his NHL debut with the Ducks in 2011-12 and splitting the 2012-13 season between Anaheim and the AHL, Maroon earned a full-time role with the big-league club in 2013-14. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound winger scored 11 goals and 29 points while racking up 101 penalty minutes in 62 games in his first full season in the NHL.
The Oilers <a href="https://oilersnation.com/news/oilers-trade-for-patrick-maroon">acquired</a> Maroon from the Ducks ahead of the trade deadline in 2015-16 and he quickly found chemistry playing with rookie Connor McDavid. The following season, Maroon broke out with 27 goals and 42 points, helping Edmonton return to the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.
Maroon was traded to the New Jersey Devils ahead of the trade deadline in 2017-18 when the <a href="https://oilersnation.com/news/maroon-talks-everything-edmonton-in-a-interview">Oilers</a> fell back out of the playoffs. Maroon joined the Blues as a free agent for 2018-19 and he helped St. Louis win their first-ever Stanley Cup. He then won back-to-back championships with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021, joining a group of <a href="https://records.nhl.com/records/playoff-skater-records/stanley-cups/skater-most-consecutive-stanley-cups-won">81 players</a> who have ever won three or more consecutive Stanley Cups.
After splitting 2023-24 between the Minnesota Wild and Boston Bruins, Maroon joined the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks for the 2024-25 season. The Hawks are well out of the playoff race in the Western Conference with a 20-41-9 record, so Maroon will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2015-16 when he was traded to Edmonton.
Set to turn 37 years old in April, Maroon has enjoyed a very successful NHL career. He&#8217;s scored 125 goals and 320 points over 840 regular season games while adding 23 goals and 53 points across 163 playoff games.
