<p>@Edmonton Oilers defenceman @Matt Benning has joined the team amid their road trip.</p>
<p>Benning has missed significant time this season after suffering a concussion Nov. 19 against the @San Jose Sharks.</p>

<p>Having been placed on the injured reserve, he joined the Oilers for a Dec. 1 game against the @Vancouver Canucks where he was once again concussed. Benning has yet to suit up since.</p>
<p>As reported by <em>The Athletic&#8217;s</em> Jonathan Willis last week, Benning had been skating on his own in Edmonton.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s encouraging to see Benning rejoin the team, and I hope the Oilers express an abundance of caution when it comes to having him get back into an NHL game.</p>
<p>Edmonton has four games between now and the start of the all-star break on Jan. 19. My hope would be Edmonton expresses that caution and keeps him out of the lineup until the Oilers and @Calgary Flames meet on Jan. 29.</p>
<p>Concussions can be very fickle and with Benning, 24, having suffered two in such a tight time frame, there has to be concern over his future health.</p>
