That goal, which opened the scoring, helped McDavid reach the 120-point mark this season, the third time in his career he has done so and for a third consecutive campaign. This is the latest milestone in what has been another productive season for the 27-year-old. McDavid already became the seventh player in league history and the only active player to have seven 100-point seasons <a href="https://oilersnation.com/news/edmonton-oilers-connor-mcdavid-becomes-sixth-player-in-nhl-history-to-record-seven-100-point-seasons" target="_blank" rel="noopener">earlier this month</a> and is on pace to record his <a href="https://records.nhl.com/records/skater-records/scoring-plateaus/most-consecutive-30-or-more-goal-season" target="_blank" rel="noopener">eighth straight 30-goal campaign</a> (and only the third active player to reach the feat alongside Alex Ovechkin and Auston Matthews). Simply put, McDavid is in the prime of his career, and there are no signs that he is slowing down anytime soon. If anything, he still has a lot more left to give, and it would not be surprising if he were to rewrite the record books some more outside of the two aforementioned records he is set to achieve before the campaign draws to a close.
Put it this way: when his contract expires in the summer of 2026, he will be severely underpaid regardless of the cap hit. That is how special of a player he is and why he continues to be the best in the league right now.
His 122 points (27 goals and 95 assists) in 69 games played currently rank him third in the NHL in scoring behind only Nikita Kucherov and Nathan MacKinnon. Considering his slow start to the regular season from a production standpoint by his standards, the fact he has a shot to secure his fourth straight Art Ross Trophy speaks volumes to how incredible he is as a player.
